With a finger on the trigger of a gun

“We just can’t stand by and do nothing”

Cry those with a finger on the trigger of a gun

As if there is nothing to be done

But put pressure on the finger on the trigger of a gun.

To bring more sorrow,

To raise more fear

Is to know that to-morrow

The cost will be dear

“Yeah. But we can’t stand by and do nothing”

Cry those with a finger on the trigger of a gun

As if there is nothing to be done

But put pressure on the finger on the trigger of a gun.

Those who have power

Should have the strength to be calm

Circumvent the tyrant in his tower

And he’ll be yours to disarm.

To those who believe they can do nothing

But put pressure on the finger on the trigger of a gun

I say, “There’s plenty waiting to be done

If you’ll just take your finger off the trigger of a gun

And attend to those crying

For water and bread

Bring aid to the dying

In horror and dread

Of diseases flying

Left freely to spread”

If, instead of paying thousands to do nothing

But go round with a finger on the trigger of a gun,

We put them to those urgent tasks waiting to be done,

We could ease the trigger happy finger and throw away the gun.
