Women's International Leaugue for Peace and Freedom

What we do

Since our establishment in 1915, we have brought together women from around the world who are united in working for peace by non-violent means and promoting political, economic and social justice for all.

We believe in making use of international, national and local efforts to fulfill our aims and principles.

WILPF strives for a fundamental change in how states conceptualise and address issues of gender, militarism, peace and security. We do this by carving a path for grassroots organisations to use and develop existing international legal and political frameworks.

A focus on education, information, and participation at the international level leads to concrete organizing and activism around the world, giving us global and local ownership over the issues upon which we work.

We also like to see WILPF as a social movement, with an ongoing aim of continuity between issues, locations, and time periods.

Our aims can be placed under three broad categories:

Challenge Militarism
Invest in Peace
Strengthen multilateralism.
