Decisive outcome for bailed women

"It goes" - In a dramatic last minute result, District Judge Crabtree at Reading Court yesterday threw out all the bail conditions imposed on four camp women by Thames Valley Police and the MoD after the 15 February blockade. Conditions banning the women from entering any MoD land (anywhere) and roads surrounding Aldermaston and Burghfield were dismissed, despite protests from the Crown Prosecution Service. Throwing a crumb to the police, Judge Crabtree imposed a new condition, which prohibits the women from travelling along a short stretch of road around Tadley Gate.

The four had argued that the conditions were unnecessary and disporportionate and interfered with their Convention rights to freedom of association and assembly as they prevented them from taking part in lawful protest (and going to the library!).

They will be back at camp this weekend and, according to the CPS, will be charged on 18th May.
