Extension gained for Pegasus objections

After receiving requests from AWPC and the Nuclear Information Service, West Berkshire Council have agreed an extension to the public consultation period for the planning application for the Pegasus Enriched Uranium Handing Facility.

Originally listed as 23 December, the closing date for objections is now 15 January 2010.

The main arguments for extension revolved around the fact that this - by AWE's own admission - is a major project; that the 60+ attached detailed documents require significant time to wade through (AWE have been preparing this application since 2005); and that the planed three week objection period was simply insufficient.

AWPC will be sending out notes for objectors in the next few days.

Meanwhile, if you want to know more about Pegasus you can find a full briefing on the NIS website.
